Review for Ghostbusters (2016) Directed by Paul Feig. Starring: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon. IMDB says “Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates, nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann, and subway worker Patty Tolan band together to stop the otherworldly threat.”

The time has come for the film that has had so much negative feedback from angry nerds all over the world. The debut trailer quickly became the most hated video on YouTube and the comments were even more ludicrous. That’s right, I’m talking about the new Ghostbusters, a film that took the net by storm with its all female casting. I for one never had a problem with this movie being made and knew it must have had the blessing of all those previously involved after so many failed attempts at a third film in the original franchise. I knew at the very least the movie would be fun based on the fact Paul Feig was directing (Spy, Bridesmaids) who I’ve had an eye on since first seeing him act in the 1995 Disney classic, Heavyweights.

Well the day has finally arrived and guess what, the new Ghostbusters film is super fun and absolutely hilarious. The cast gives an amazing performance and the story is pretty great for the most part as well. For all the older generation fans, there’s plenty in there for you guys as well including cameos from original cast members, even the late Harold Ramis himself, in some form or another.

The cast in this new film is absolutely perfect, each core member of the team brings everything to the table. Melissa McCarthy even made me laugh, which honestly doesn’t happen very often. One of my favorite cast members is Kate McKinnon who plays Holtzman. She shines bright in this film and provides an enormous amount of the comedy throughout. Also, Chris Hemsworth steals a majority of the scenes he is in playing a buffoon of a character who will have you rolling in laughter. The assortment of cameos are also amazing and even if they weren’t in their original roles it still makes you feel good having them in there even just for a few shots.

The only problematic moments I even could pick out were a few script issues, but they weren’t enough to make me enjoy the film any less. Obviously there’s a lot of CGI for all the creatures and ghouls but it’s 2016, what can ya do about it these days. This film is the Ghostbusters film that old fans can still enjoy with it being in the same spirit of those we grew up on. It also paves the way for a whole new generation of Ghostbusters fans who will grow to love these beloved characters as many of us did at their age. I believe Feig delivered a quality comedy film for fans to enjoy and also one the Harold Ramis would be proud of if he were still with us. So do yourself a favor and go check out Ghostbusters this weekend, you won’t regret it and will be in for a fun time you won’t soon forget.
