The Best on DVD & BluRay

Steve Jobs

Who’s in it?
Michael Fassbender, Seth Rogen, Katherine Waterston, Kate Winslet, Jeff Daniels

What’s it about?
“Set backstage at three iconic product launches and ending in 1998 with the unveiling of the iMac, Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.” – Universal

Nate’s Two Cents?
This adaptation of the Steve Jobs story is like no other version which we have seen on film before. Instead of going the biopic route which they did with films like Pirates of Silicon Valley and Jobs, the filmmakers decided to take a much different approach. Danny Boyle instead decided to focus on a few very important moments of Jobs’ legacy. Boyle offers a deeper look inside the man himself and what pushed him in moments of crisis. If you haven’t seen this yet be sure to pick it up or rent it this week!

VOD Rental of the Week

Southbound

Who’s in it?
Chad Villella, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Kristina Pesic, Fabianne Therese, Nathalie Love, Hannah Marks, Dana Gould, Anessa Ramsey, Susan Burke, Davey Johnson, Larry Fessenden

What’s it about?
“On a desolate stretch of desert highway, weary travelers-two men on the run from their past, a band on their way to the next gig, a man struggling to get home, a brother in search of his long-lost sister and a family on vacation-are forced to confront their worst fears and darkest secrets in these interwoven tales of terror and remorse on the open road.” – Rotten Tomatoes

Nate’s Two Cents?
This movie is by far the best anthology that I have seen in quite some time. The film comes from the creators of the V/H/S trilogy but is so much better. The way the segments all interconnect give the film a more cohesive feel and look to them and keep the viewer interested. The anthology has a bit of everything from the opening which feels like an old Twilight Zone episode, to some dealings with cults, some creatures to battle and bit of a bloody mess in the middle. For any horror fans out there do yourself a favor and rent this off VOD this week, it’s worth the price.

Labyrinth of Liess

“In “Labyrinth of Lies” the economic miracle is changing the life of Germans in post-war Germany 20 years later. Most of them are sick of the war and prefer to push their guilt to the back of their mind. When a journalist (André Szymanski) identifies a teacher in the playground as a former guard from Auschwitz, no one wants to take notice. But a young prosecutor (Alexander Fehling) takes on the case and can’t even be stopped by his boss. During his research he realizes that some Germans claim that they never heard the expression “Auschwitz,” while others try to forget about it. As the resolute prosecutor doesn’t give up, the Attorney General Fritz Bauer (Gert Voss) retains him to take charge of the investigations. Struggling with an overload of information, the young attorney blunders into a labyrinth of guilt and lies where he almost gets lost.” – Rotten Tomatoes
