What We Do in the Shadows

Rotten Tomatoes: 96% | IMDB: 7.6

Who’s in it?
Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, Jonny Brugh, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Rhys Darby

What’s it about?
“WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS chronicles the adventures of four vampire roommates trying to get by in a modern world that’s not always hospitable to the undead. Clement and Waititi, creators of the HBO hit series “Flight of the Conchords,” co-wrote, co-directed, and co-star in this hilarious send-up in which an endearingly unhip quartet of friends reveal to us or, rather, to the documentary crew that’s filming them, the details of their daily-make that nightly-routine. Ranging in age from 183 to 8,000, and in appearance from adorably youthful to Nosferatu-crusty, they squabble over household chores, struggle to keep up with the latest trends in technology and fashion, antagonize the local werewolves, cruise clubs for lovely ladies, and deal with the rigors of living on a very, very strict diet.” – Paladin

Nate’s Two Cents?
I finally got around to watching this movie after months of putting it off and telling myself I needed to watch it. I’ve always been a fan of Flight of the Concords, so I had faith in the films ability to entertain. The whole movie is a hilarious look into the lives of a group of vampires trying to live in the modern world. Note: This is not Twilight. I really enjoyed the film and would watch it again.

Jauja

Rotten Tomatoes: 92% | IMDB: 6.5

“A remote military outpost in Patagonia, 1882, during the so-called “Conquest of the Desert”, a genocidal campaign against the aboriginal population of the region. Acts of savagery abound on all sides. Captain Gunnar Dinesen has come from Denmark with his fifteen year-old daughter to take an engineering job with the Argentine army. Being the only female in the area, Ingeborg creates quite a stir among the men. She falls in love with a young soldier, and one night they run away together. When he wakes up the Captain realises what has happened and decides to venture into enemy territory to find the young couple. Jauja is the story of a man’s desperate search for his daughter, a solitary quest that takes us to a place beyond time, where the past vanishes and the future has no meaning.” – Cinema Guild

Grandma’s Boy (2006)

Rotten Tomatoes: 18% | IMDB: 7.0

Who’s in it?
Linda Cardellini, Allen Covert, Peter Dante, Joel David Moore, Kevin Nealon, Doris Roberts, Jonah Hill, Nick Swardson

What’s this thing about?
“Can the world’s oldest adolescent maintain his cool while living with his grandmother? Alex (Allen Covert) is a 35-year-old video-game fanatic who gave up a career in accounting to take a job testing games for Brainasium, the company behind the wildly popular game “Eternal Death Slayer.” While Alex took a big pay cut to land his dream job, he’s happy with his work and is making ends meet — until he discovers that his roommate hasn’t paid the rent for the last six months, using the money to finance repeated visits to a local massage parlor. After running out of friends who will let him sleep on their couch, Alex swallows his pride and moves in with his grandma Lily (Doris Roberts), who loves Alex and is happy to give him a place to stay in exchange for doing chores around the house. Lily shares her home with two friends, perpetually confused Bea (Shirley Knight) and sexually adventurous Grace (Shirley Jones), and between the three of them, there’s always work to be done, keeping Alex busy nearly every night. While Alex tells his co-workers he’s living with three attractive women who are running him ragged, they don’t know the real story; in the meantime, Alex is trying to charm Brainasium’s beautiful new executive, Samantha (Linda Cardellini), while butting heads with the firm’s space-case CEO Cheezle (Kevin Nealon) and J.P. (Joel David Moore), a teenage game designer who is no longer in touch with reality. Grandma’s Boy was the first feature film from director Nicholaus Goossen.” – 20th Century Fox

Nate’s Two Cents?
If you haven’t seen Grandma’s Boy then be sure to watch it now! It’s hilarious and always a great re-watch. I was very surprised when I saw how low of a score it received on Rotten Tomatoes. Everyone I’ve ever talked to has loved the movie and found it extremely amusing. Either way, give it a watch and find out for yourself if you haven’t already.
