Before I Go To Sleep
In an attempt to stick to our movie-related New Years resolutions, Jess and I plan to keep a weekly record of our progress towards our goal. See if we hit our goal this week and what movies we watched. You can also check out our initial resolutions post here.

My big goal this year is to watch three types of movies a week:

  • 1 New Movie (anything that has come out in the last 3-4 months)
  • 1 Movie From My Netflix Queue (it has to be from the list I cemented in stone at the beginning of 2014 to count)
  • 1 Movie I’ve Been Meaning to Rewatch

Lets take a look at what was watched this past week.

New Movies:

  • Before I Go To Sleep – If you’re a fan of decent suspense to throw on one sleepy afternoon, I’d definitely recommend. The cast is more than decent – Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth, and Mark Strong.

Re-watched:

  • Crazy, Stupid, Love – One of the best romantic comedies to come out in recent years, this has limitless rewatchability for me. Hadn’t seen it for a little while and it was still just as fun and funny.

Off the Queue:

  • Fever Pitch – The 1997 version about football based on the Nick Hornby book (which I still need to read). This also happens to star Colin Firth and Mark Strong. This was a really cute romantic comedy that wasn’t cliche at all; in fact it gets the cliche out of the way right at the beginning. Perfect movie for anyone who’s significant other is obsessed with anything, be it sports or whatever.

New Movies:

  • Focus – Not a perfect movie but enjoyable. Smith and Robbie perform well and aren’t too shabby to look at either. There were a few scenes I really liked and I thought the whole movie was rounded out by a stellar supporting cast.

Re-watched:

  • V for Vendetta – I gave this movie another shot because I’ve never been much of a fan. Again, I liked parts of it but overall I wasn’t terribly impressed. Another movie that borders on the next level but never quite attains the status of greatness.

Off the Queue:

  • We Are What We Are – This was a well told and unique story that overall I found to be surprisingly well made. Knowing the main subject matter of the film beforehand took away some of the tension I might have felt otherwise. If you’re interested and don’t want anything spoiled, the movie is a slow burn horror film that centers around a religious family with a dark secret. It’s worth a watch, especially for genre fans.
