Park City (2015) Directed by Hannah Rosner. Starring: Jill Evyn, Joey Mireles, David Hoffman, and Hannah Rosner. Synopsis: “PARK CITY is a comedy about a group of ambitious young filmmakers who lose their 35mm festival print at a pivotal moment in their career… a few hours before their world premiere at Sundance.”

I was recently given the opportunity to review Park City, an independent film coming soon to iTunes. The film chronicles the adventures of a small group of independent filmmakers as they travel cross-country to premier their film at the Sundance Film Festival. Once they arrive they are met with a series of distractions which could ultimately ruin their chance at a big break. The plot and screenplay are well devised and present a compelling storyline. I felt as though there was a good bit of character development that really brings the audience into the world of these four individuals and gives the viewer a vested interest in their success (of failure) at Sundance.

As with many super low budget films, there must be certain concessions on the technical side of things and I think that shows. There were a few points where the sound editing seemed a bit off and several instances where the camerawork seemed a bit shaky. Now, to play devil’s advocate, it seems as though some of this was played off as a documentary-style film the group was making during their travels. So I can’t count this against the film. The acting was surprisingly strong. I was more than satisfied with all of the lead actors and surprised to see a few familiar faces dropping in.

Park City does a lot with what is has, it’s able to make all of the elements work together to be an enjoyable film. There were a few points where things felt a bit dry or slow but there were equally as many very comedic moments. While this isn’t a pure non-stop laugh riot, it is, I think, exactly what it set out to be. That is, it’s a mockumentary style film that seeks to stick to the world of what’s possible and that isn’t going to result in the more outlandish scenes that garner big laughs in films like The Hangover. This is a very down-to-earth low-key comedy that takes the viewer on a very satisfying and enjoyable journey. It’s definitely a movie you can relax to, and it is definitely worthy of a watch.
