In an attempt to stick to our movie-related New Years resolutions, Jess and I plan to keep an weekly record of our progress towards our goal. See if we hit our goal this week and what movies we watched. You can also check out our initial resolutions post here.

My big goal this year is to watch three types of movies a week:

  • 1 New Movie (anything that has come out in the last 3-4 months)
  • 1 Movie From My Netflix Queue (it has to be from the list I cemented in stone at the beginning of 2014 to count)
  • 1 Movie I’ve Been Meaning to Rewatch

Lets take a look at what was watched this past week.

New Movies:

  • Wild – I found the story moving, Witherspoon’s performance wonderful, and the film as a whole pretty great. I’ve also been listening to “El Condor Pasa (If I Could)” pretty obsessively since.

Re-watched:

  • The Raid 2 – Easily has some of the best action sequences in the past… ever.
  • The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – Lindsay & I have been talking about watching this movie with the Director’s Commentary since this came out. It was an awesome behind the scenes look that just made me want to restart the movie immediately.
  • Gone Girl – This movie is just so much fun in its incredibly twisted way. I still can’t decide between my first & second place movies from 2014, even after rewatching both.
  • Enemy – And this is currently my #1 movie of 2014. On my third watch, the thrill has still not died down, and the loose ends have not been tied.

Off the Queue:

  • In The Loop – Watching this after Veep (which I love), it’s impossible not to see the similarities in Armando Iannucci’s movie. I thought it was hilarious and would definitely like to watch The Thick of It when I get the chance.

New Movies:

  • John Wick – Highly entertaining and beautiful to boot. High on my list of rewatchable action flicks.

Re-watched:

  • Little Miss Sunshine – I had forgotten bits and pieces of this and it was a nice treat to rewatch it. Breslin truly is adorable in it. Also, both Bryan Cranston AND Dean Norris pop up in this!
  • Gone Girl – My fav movie of 2014 still brought it’s A-Game. Honestly, I find the movie funnier the more I watch it. A really messed up black comedy.
  • The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – Watched this with the director’s commentary on and learned a ton of fun facts about the filming. So much time and effort go into making the smallest of details perfect. That’s why Fincher is the man.
  • Enemy – Still a stunner. Watched this with a mixed group of fans and newcomers. My only regret is not waiting a week before discussing the film.
  • 10 Things I Hate About You – Actually watched this front to back for the first time in a while. Remains a charming and worthwhile teen romcom. Seeing Ledger shine so bright makes me sad though.
  • Godzilla – Enjoyable rewatch but made me want to see a sequel more than anything. I take back my comments made on a recent FTS podcast episode and now welcome the next installment with eager anticipation.

Off the Queue:

  • Grabbers – Fun and funny flick about a small town that must stay inebriated to avoid an attack from a dangerous sea monster.
