12.19.1Here to take a look at the films coming out in wide and limited release this coming weekend. I’ll give you my thoughts to help you decide what’s worth checking out.

guide1

  • Annie Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb – For both of these movies, I can say pretty much the same thing. No, thank you. My lack of children really makes these prospects seem completely missable, possibly of the dodged-a-bullet variety.
  • The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (opened Wednesday) – Please refer to what I wrote last year (to a tee, including what Rob said). According to Rob, this is very action packed and picks up exactly where the second film left off.

I am so not qualified enough to speak on the subject. Not only have I not yet seen the first Hobbit film but I’ve still not seen the LOTR films yet either. I really should catch up. I can offer you the opinion of Rob who loves those little hobbits and has seen all the extended editions of the LOTR series. He really enjoyed it and thought it was one of his favorite movies of the year. A review will be up Friday.

guide2

  • Mr. Turner – This film is about the British painter J.M.W. Turner, who’s more impressionist art debuted in a time when there was nothing popular really like it. He was seen as a rebel for not sticking with a more traditional, realistic style. The film looks just as beautiful as his paintings and Timothy Spall has been been receiving a lot of notice about his lead performance. It looks perfectly decent, but not something I’d rush out to theaters to see, even if it was more readily available. One thing is for sure, it’s full swing biopic season everyone!
    Playing in select theaters.
