dragonHere to take a look at the films coming out in wide and limited release this coming weekend. I’ll give you my thoughts to help you decide what’s worth checking out.

wide

  • How To Train Your Dragon 2 – I’m not very excitable when it comes to animated films, finding them to be pretty passable with so much else to see. Every once and awhile one gets such great praise I feel like I missed out. No, I am not talking about Frozen you freaks, but How to Train Your Dragon. It seemed cute enough, but everyone I know who’s seen it loved it. I still haven’t caught it, although I really think I should. I won’t be seeing this in theaters, but if you were a fan of the first, hopefully it has much of the same magic.
  • 22 Jump Street – I can’t believe this is already here. I remember a distant memory in 2012, leaving 21 Jump Street, and thinking “please let there be a sequel!”. 21 Jump Street was easily one of the best comedies of the past few years, and based on the high praise thus far, the sequel is on the same playing field. I cannot wait to laugh my ass off with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum yet again as they go to college.

limited

  • Hellion – This little indie release is about a rebellious boy who’s father has completely checked out but lovingly takes care of his younger brother. I saw this at the Maryland Film Festival (read Lindsay’s mini review here). It’s a pretty good family drama although nothing that will blow you away. The child performances are particularly good, with Aaron Paul and Juliette Lewis as the recognizable faces.
Available through Video on Demand and in select theaters.
