The Ultimate Villain Tournament is a bracket style competition that pits movie villain against movie villain. In this match up, two very dubious terrorists face off. Which baddie would be able to pull off his/her villainous scheme? Take a look at our character breakdowns and tell us who you think is the bigger threat.
Ivan Korshunov is your typical cookie-cutter Russian-ish (well Kazakhstan but this guy is no Borat) baddie facing off against the US president about 30,000 feet in the air. Ivan is a hopeless fanatic who will let nothing stop him from supporting his cause and achieving his goals. A master of deception, Ivan can sneak into one of the most secured places in the world. Able to gun down innocent civilians without batting an eye, Ivan shows the fearless determination and sheer lack of morals he can bring to the table.
Strengths: Smart, cunning, without remorse.
Weaknesses: Ivan lacks much physical strength and can likely easily be outmatched in hand to hand combat. Also, his fanaticism can work against him causing him to overlook certain details and get tunnel vision towards his goal.
Hans Gruber is the one, the only, true Die Hard villain. He’s the original eastern European ne’er-do-well who leads a gang of goons bent on fundraising at anyone’s expense. Hans has a few things going for him: he is clearly able to work a crowd, he can get people bought in and ready for a fight; He is a master of deception, whether it’s faking an accent or lulling someone into a false sense of security, he’s got it. Also his sheer sense of cunning and ability to plan out a perfect operation makes him a capable foe.
Strengths: Arrogant, deceptive and meticulous planner.
Weaknesses: Inability to handle things on his own. He is an administrator not an operator. One on one, whether fists or guns, he probably doesn’t make it out alive.
