Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.

Instead of Monsters University: Revenge of the Nerds
If you have kids or are just one of those Disney Pixar fan/nerds then I’m sure Monsters U will be right up your alley. But if you’re like me and care to partake in more adult humor, sit down the very 80’s college comedy Revenge of the Nerds. It’s got a slew of lovable nerds that fight back against the bullies of the ‘cool frat on campus.’ It sounds lame to say “hi-jinks ensue” but that’s a spot on term for the film.

WORLD WAR Z
Instead of World War Z: 28 Weeks Later
I’m still going back and forth with my desire to see WWZ but I am firmly able to recommend 28 Weeks Later. The sequel to Danny Boyle’s zombie masterpiece 28 Days Later, Weeks is an engrossing experience all it’s own. It stands to expand on the original social story and succeeds thanks to it’s fantastic direction, disturbing atmosphere and central tension.

Any of Edgar Wright’s Blu Ray Combo Packs (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz or Scott Pilgrim vs. The World)
I’m not 100% sure what the occasion is but there’s a lovely re-release of all of Edgar Wright’s filmography out this week. If you’ve put off buying your favorite’s before, now would be the time to pick up these excellent movies.

The Snowtown Murders (2011)
This Australian film is based of one of the country’s most horrifying series of murders. The film itself is a bit on the long side and absolutely what I would describe as a difficult film to get through but not because of quality. The movie edges along at a disturbing pace as you follow the principal perpetrator of the murders as he manipulates others to help him in his devious efforts. Often painful, always engrossing, The Snowtown Murders offers an chilling look at a true crime story that is sure to stun.

The Snowtown Murders Netflix Synopsis: This grisly thriller is based on the true story of Australia’s worst serial killer, John Bunting, and the people he convinced to help him. One of them is teenager Jamie, whose entire family eventually falls under Bunting’s dark spell.

What do you plan on watching this week, at home or otherwise? What do you think of my choices?
