Daniel Craig
Since I became a movie blogger, I have paid more attention to the people that were making the movies that I was enjoying. There were a number of directors that I knew by name before I got into the game, some of them were essentially household names (like Quentin Tarantino) and others were personal favorites (like Edgar Wright and Wes Anderson), but the number of directors that I get excited about over their upcoming movies has grown exponentially. These are a few of the directors that are new to my favorites list, most of which are long time favorites of my fellow FTSers.

David Fincher: Fincher was a director that I was familiar with before I started blogging. Fight Club was one of my favorite movies when I saw it. At the time, I didn’t pay attention to the director’s name, but knew I enjoyed his style. Since then I have seen a few more pieces from Fincher including Se7en, The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. While The Social Network was a slow burner for me that I have grown to really like after repeat viewings, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo instantly enthralled me. I am looking forward to whatever is his next movie release because I know that it will be a classic.

David Lynch: I watched Blue Velvet randomly one day when I had some free time. I did not know what to expect, but thought the movie was entertaining and enjoyed how absurd parts of it were. A little while back, FTS watched Mulholland Drive and I was surprised by the level of complexity in the film’s plot. Since watching that movie, I am going to give anything he does a fair shot. I know it’s going to be weird, but I feel like that’s part of the fun with Lynch. If he ever made a movie that didn’t make me ask myself what the hell I was watching, I would be disappointed.

Darren Afonofsky - Screen Talk: 54th BFI London Film Festival
Darren Aronofsky: I had not seen anything by Darren Aronofsky before I started working on a movie blog. The first film I saw of his was Black Swan. I really enjoyed the dark themes and fine line it created between reality and illusions of the mind. Despite how much I liked this movie, I probably wouldn’t have checked it out if I was not involved with the site. After Black Swan, I watched one his previous works, The Fountain. I enjoyed the thick plot of that film as well, even though I thought that Black Swan was a better movie as far as what it felt like he was trying to accomplish. This makes me very interested in what he could do with his next film.

Sam Mendes-vert
Sam Mendes: I recently watched Skyfall and loved it. The look and feel of the film was expertly done and this created a fantastic viewing experience. Before Skyfall, I had seen Away We Go and thought it was a really well made film, even though it was not the movie I was expecting to see. Away We Go was not the kind of movie that would make me seek out a director’s work, but Skyfall more than certainly was. It is a shame that he isn’t going to work on the next Bond film, but I am looking forward to whatever movie he does direct next.

Danny Boyle
Danny Boyle: I should have been a bigger fan of Danny Boyle considering how much I liked Trainspotting. Since then, I have seen Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours, but have yet to see 28 Days Later. Of the movies of Boyle’s that I have seen, they all come off as very different films. If I wasn’t looking for who directed each one, I’m not sure I would have guessed they were all by the same director. I appreciate that kind of talent in a director, to be able to create such unique styles in each of his films. I know for his next movie, Trance, I’m not sure what exactly to expect, other than its going to be a well made movie.
