As a beer lover, I often find myself selecting out a brew to fit my mood. And as a movie lover, most of the time the two go hand in hand. So I decided to share some pairings of film and beer that I think go great together. Take a look at my pick of the month and hopefully you will enjoy it.

Ballast Point Sculpin IPA

This beer is considered to be a little stronger than a traditional IPA, but not quite as strong as a double IPA. The beer uses hops that create a citrus aroma and a pleasant bitterness. Sculpin’s great flavor has earned it a perfect 100 on RateBeer and a World-Class rating on BeerAdvocate. This beer is a must-try for anyone who enjoys West Coast IPAs.

Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou stars Bill Murray as a sea faring adventurer who is attempting to avenge the death of his best friend. Before shipping off, he meets the son he never knew he had, played by Owen Wilson. The cast is rounded out by Willem Dafoe and Jeff Goldblum in some of their best roles and the soundtrack features Seu Jorge covering David Bowie in Portuguese. The movie has the same story telling elements of other Wes Anderson movies, so if you like his other films you will be happy with The Life Aquatic.

Ballast Point names all their beers after the sea and its creatures. Steve Zissou’s life is the aquatic. This is a well made film, both visually and narratively, that draws you into its interesting world. This beer is equally well crafted. Maybe it doesn’t tell a story per-se, but its flavors are complex enough to entertain your tongue. At 7%, if you drink enough bottles of Sculpin, by the time you see the Jaguar Shark those colors should really pop.
