Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.

Instead of Looper: Brick

I’m not taking anything away from Looper, it’s a great premise, looks like a solid cast, and it appears to have just the right balance of action and story to be awesome. But if you can’t make it to the theater to catch it, grab some pop-secret, plop into your couch, and watch Brick. Director Rian Johnson directs both films and of course his leading man in each is Mr. JGL himself. Brick trades in action for a more noir feel, but still an enjoyable film experience.

Instead of Won’t Back Down: Lean On Me

Won’t Back Down features the amazing Viola Davis and the amazingly dull Maggie Gyllenhaal as a mother and teacher who are trying to change their children’s school. Viola has had a pretty good run, being nominated for her roles in The Help and Doubt in recent years. Who knows, this may be the year she takes home an Oscar. But if you can’t catch what I’m sure to be an excellent performance from Ms. Davis, catch another great at work with Morgan Freeman in Lean On Me. Freeman plays Joe Clark, a hard-as-nails principal who through unconventional means turns around a failing inner city school.

Dark Shadows(2012)

Tim Burton and his butt buddy, Jonny Depp come together once again to take something from your childhood and make it creepy. Wait, Dark Shadows was already creepy, you say? So what is Burton gonna do? He’s going to make it glossy, pretty, and set in the 60’s for some odd reason. I didn’t catch this one in theaters, maybe there’s some redeeming quality in the blu-ray that I didn’t see in the trailer…..

I Saw The Devil (2010)

This movie came to my attention sometime last year when Lindsay got us together and made us watch it, afterwards we recorded a FTS Mini about it which you can listen to here. I really enjoyed the movie and wanted to see it again but alas, it was dvd only. Now it’s on instant watch and I’ve placed it pretty high up on my queue, you should do the same.

I Saw The Devil Netflix Synopsis: Secret agent Kim Soo-hyeon learns how far he’ll go for revenge after his fiancée is brutally slain by a serial killer. With police baffled, Soo-hyeon decides to catch the murderer, but his growing violence makes him wonder who the monster really is.

What do you plan on watching this week, at home or otherwise? What do you think of my choices?
