Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.

Instead of The Bourne Legacy: Haywire

You can read Lindsay’s review here about TBL which sounds decent enough, but if you want to skip the theaters I suggest opting for Haywire. This is another action flick about an agent being targeted by their own people and excels with well shot and choreographed combat scenes as well as stellar direction by Steven Soderbergh. Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas, and newcomer Gina Carano fill out the superb ensemble.

Instead of The Campaign: Election

I could go the Step Brothers route but instead I’m going to recommend another campaign-related movie, Election. It stars Reese Witherspoon at her comedic best as an over-achieving, manipulative high schooler attempting to win class president. Her teacher, played by Matthew Broderick, can see her dark side and doesn’t want her to win, trying to sabotage the election at all costs. This movie is co-written and directed by Alexander Payne and features a fantastic, hilarious script.

Instead of Hope Springs: It’s Complicated

This is an easy pick and also a movie I can easily recommend. It’s Complicated may not seem that promising, but when Rob and I randomly decided to watch this in theaters (on our first date – awwww) we consistently cracked up through the whole movie. Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and Steve Martin all have hilarious chemistry. It’s a fairly light comedy but there’s plenty of jokes to make it an enjoyable cable watch.

The Raid: Redemption (2012)

When Will & Nick saw this earlier this year they raved about it incessantly and I still haven’t gotten around to seeing it myself so I’m excited it’s finally coming out on DVD/Blu Ray.  Championed as one of the coolest, most badass action films of recent years, it features endless combat sequences and an impressive body count.

Sabrina (1954)
This film stars Audrey Hepburn as a chaffeur’s daughter, who has lived on the property of a wealthy family with two sons. She’s been in love with the one brother, the handsome playboy David (William Holden) who doesn’t notice her until she returns from school in Paris a sophisticated woman. While she starts to kindle a romance with David, things get complicated when his more dour, pragmatic brother Linus (Humphrey Bogart) tries to get between the two lovebirds to secure a business contract. This is a sweet film with plenty of comedy and romance, and of course the infectious Hepburn charm.

Sabrina Netflix Synopsis: Industrious tycoon Linus Larrabee (Humphrey Bogart) has no room for love in his appointment book until a burgeoning romance between his libertine brother, David (William Holden), and the family chauffeur’s daughter, Sabrina Fairchild (Audrey Hepburn), jeopardizes Linus’ pending business merger. At that point, the workaholic CEO clears his calendar to derail the romance. This Billy Wilder classic collected an Academy Award for Best Costume Design.

What do you plan on watching this week, at home or otherwise? What do you think of my choices?
