Yeah, the new one IS better. The problem with the new one is the other one was so recent.
I think the new one was a lot more ambitious in its themes and certainly better acted, but the story was a mess. It lingered too long on some moments and sped through others. Any time I see black lights and obtuse technology, it’s kind of the equivalent of the pipe-smoking scientist popping into the 50s monster movie to say “It’s science. That’s all you need to know. Please stop asking questions now.” Sometimes simpler is better.
