Maybe you’re looking to save a few bucks or the current theater choices just aren’t cutting it. Whatever the case may be, sometimes it’s just as nice to sit at home and watch a good flick. Take a look at this week’s picks for some At-Home Alternatives to the weekly cinema options.

Instead of The Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Man

To be perfectly honest, I didn’t see the need to reboot a franchise whose last entry came out only five years ago.  If you agree with me, stay home and watch the original Spider-Man, starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.  The major plot points in Spider-Man are largely covered again in ASM, so re-watching is almost like watching the new one, just add a lizard.

Instead of Savages: Traffic

Savages is about a tag team of young Marijuana dealers in SoCal who are having their territory encroached upon by a Mexican Cartel looking to move further north.  To drive the point home, the Mexican Cartel steals their girlfriend (note the plurality of ‘their’ and the singularity of ‘girlfriend’); seems like an interesting movie.  If you can’t make it to the theater, stay home and watch Soderbergh’s modern classic, Traffic.  Traffic is a character study that looks at the various avenues drugs enter America and the effects they have on people, from dealers to law enforcement to the addicts themselves; it’s definitely an enjoyable watch.

American Reunion

I remember many moons ago when I first laid my teenaged eyes on the original American Pie;  the next day at school I couldn’t physically wait to tell my friends about the sheer debauchery I witnessed. American Reunion gets the entire original cast back together for one more raucous romp, this is one I’m definitely picking up on Tuesday.

Hostel 3 (2011)
So this week’s Netflix pick was inspired by a fellow movie blogger, Kai over at Man, I Love Films (check them out!).  He posted on twitter that he was watching it and I said to myself, “I didn’t know this existed!” Hostel III takes place stateside but still has all the bloody gore that make the first two so much fun to watch.

Hostel 3 Synopsis: In this installment in the popular horror franchise, a bachelor party in Las Vegas turns into a hellish bloodbath for all involved. As the groom and his friends try to escape their sadistic tormentor, they’re subjected to a multitude of horrors.

What do you plan on watching this week, at home or otherwise? What do you think of my choices?
