  1. Great episode. Love the topic… might have to steal it and make my own Top 10. :)

I can’t for the life of me, 24 hours later, remember all the picks you had but I had a few thoughts:

    - I tend to avoid picking films that came out before I was born for a breakthrough role since I wasn’t around to see the effect the film had on an actor’s career but I think it’s safe to say Clockwork Orange was McDowell’s breakout moment. Good pick.

    - Bale in American Psycho is an inspired pick. Truly, great acting and did propel Bale to the A-list.

    - I disagree with Jess about 10 Things… If anybody brokeout from that movie, it was Ledger. JoGo is pretty average in that movie (not because of him but because of the character) and is almost forgettable. I don’t think JoGo brokeout until Brick or in that string of indies where he did Mysterious Skin, Brick & The Lookout. I also disagree with Styles because she never really broke out. That role led to other forgettable films and culminated with bit role in the Bourne films and a one season arc on Dexter. But if you mean, she got the leads and it led her to more film work then… okay.

    - Sam Jackson is a great pick but his breakthru role is clearly Pulp, dude, c’mon!

The only one I can’t believe no one mentioned is Bruce Willis in Die Hard??? People forget he not only made a (long) film career off that but changed the genre. He basically did to action films what Nirvana did to hair bands. :)

Great show tho. Keep ‘em comiing!

      • Yeah, what an actor’s breakthrough role is can be sort of subjective I guess. For me 10 Things is what made JGL breakthrough out of his childhood career from my perspective. He stood out a lot to me watching it but I would probably say his REAL breakthrough role is 500 Days of Summer. The 10 Things picks were really self-serving for me though.

    • Thanks for backing me up on Pulp/Sam Jackson!

And Bruce in Die Hard deserves a duuuuhh, I can’t believe we missed that one! Great choice!

Glad you like the show, we can’t wait to guest on yours!
