Directed by Joe Johnston, Starring: Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, and Hayley Atwell, Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) IMDB says: “After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America’s ideals.”

Lindsay: I admittedly put off writing this review. I didn’t hate Captain America, but I also didn’t really like the film either. It’s one of those inoffensive movies that wasn’t able to pull any strong emotions from me. Needless to say, I wasn’t super excited to write out a review.

Captain America is comparable to Thor : stylish action sequences, attractive leads and not a whole lot else to fall in love with. The cast is convincing but the script is not. I have said it once and I stick by it here: Iron Man is the only Avengers movie so far with any substance and drive. Perhaps it’s just me, but I have a hard time relating to the situation characters face in these other worldly dream lands and in CA’s case, the power of absurd machines that are explained away in about 5 minutes. I get it, this is an action adventure movie, but when you spend a good portion of the first half of your movie explaining to the audience why the Steve Rodgers (Chris Evans) character will make an excellent super solider, maybe you want to spend more than a few minutes showing me that some dude with a weird face developed these machines that vaporize people.

When there’s action, it’s exciting, but the other 2/3 of the film were not impressive. They ask the viewer to deal with a lot of corny lines, impossible scenarios and obvious leaps of plausibility. For me to explain that one without sounding like a considerable douche I would be spoiling major parts of the movie.
