Directed by David Gordon Green, Starring: Danny McBride, James Franco, Natalie Portman, and Zooey Deschanel. Your Highness (2011)

What’s It About?

IMDB says: When Prince Fabious’s bride is kidnapped, he goes on a quest to rescue her… accompanied by his lazy useless brother Thadeous.

What We Thought:

Lindsay: If you go into Your Highness thinking it’s going to be anything above a stoner comedy you will undoubtedly be disappointed. But if you have an open mind (or a smokey one) take a seat to watch the always goofy Danny McBride and the always high James Franco battle fake shit and make modern day jokes in old English. It’s not a great movie (shit, it’s not even a good one) but it’s an ok comedy. I laughed appropriately throughout and a had a good time. I recommend watching is at home with some friends. Oh and it’s certainly better than Year One.

Jessica: I thought this movie was as good as I was expecting. All that I wanted was a silly comedy and that’s exactly what I got. For me if anything this movie proved that pretty much every time a cuss word + medieval speak is combined it cracks me up. James Franco is really weird in it (in a good way), Danny McBride is Danny McBride, Natalie Portman is oddly morbid and violent, and Zooey Deschanel has all of these understated laugh out loud moments that you might miss if you’re looking somewhere else on screen. Critics are really being too harsh about a movie that delivered on the trashy humor that it promised. They weren’t going for anything meaningful or tasteful here.

Rob: If I was going to compare Your Highness to another movie, I would compare it to Pineapple Express since it was made by the same guys. Pineapple Express had more laugh out loud moments and had pretty good actions sequences for a comedy. Your Highness had good action scenes, and it was funny quite often, but it didn’t really have the same kind of feel that made me really like Pineapple Express.

On its own Your Highness was an okay movie to check out, but it didn’t seem like a movie I would get excited to see again. I’d watch it if it was on, and I’m sure I would like it, but I can’t see myself seeking it out. I can think of a few jokes that were pretty golden though. Basically, I’d rather re-watch Pineapple Express than Your Highness, even though I’ve only seen Your Highness once.

FTS SCORE:
69%
61-89% = Really enjoyable movie. It may not be perfect in all aspects but it was worth the watch..
