Take Me Home Tonight (2011) Directed by Michael Dowse. Starring: Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, & Teresa Palmer. IMDB says: Follow an aimless college grad who pursues his dream girl at a wild Labor Day weekend party. He, his twin sister and their best friend struggle with their burgeoning adulthood over the course of the night.”
LindsayTake Me Home Tonight has a lot of great stuff going for it. Most of the characters in the film are at a point in their life where they are starting to question what they really want. What do they want to do, where would they like to end up. And even though most of the film’s characters are sort of having rich, privileged problems (Topher Grace’s character graduated from MIT and now doesn’t know what to do, Teresa Palmer is stuck at an investment banking job she hates etc…) you can still relate to the idea that making big life choices is scary. No one wants to fall into a life they didn’t really want and feel trapped. So that’s the essence of TMHT, a collage of characters in varying different life situations dealing with those questions on one fateful night. The acting is strong here and the real life chemistry of off screen couple Topher Grace and Teresa Palmer shines in the film. The only real gripe I have with the movie is that it feels it needs to rely too much on jokes from its 80’s setting to forward the movie. This movie would have been a great teen comedy of the 2010’s (?) if put in a modern setting. But instead it has the viewer remember the charm of the great coming of age flicks from the 1980’s by setting the entire story back 20 some years. It’s just unnecessary. Other than that I was really digging on what this movie had to offer. A solid little cast, really funny and really honest moments, and a great ending. The film has the most important quality that I look for in all my friends, it’s genuine. Like, totally.

Jessica: I thought this movie was really funny and sweet. I dig anything 80’s and this movie including some great artifacts, including an awesome soundtrack. I have been what I refer to as 80’s dancing for the past week. The cast was really a highlight of this movie. Topher Grace is incredibly likeable and he feels really honest in his part. I am always a fan of Anna Faris and in this role she was definitely less wacky than most of her parts, but still was super funny. I am convinced that Teresa Palmer is a cross in looks between Amber Heard and Kristen Stewart and was really into her performance in this. Lastly, Dan Fogler produced most of the laugh out loud moments in this movie and I see great comedic potential in this guy. Overall this movie was mostly goofy with a few very cute moments that made me really enjoy it.

Rob: Take Me Home Tonight was fun, but a little predictable. The story was very formulaic and at times you knew exactly what was going to happen and where that would take the plot. There were a few surprises thrown in here and there that didn’t make it feel completely like something that I’ve seen before, so it didn’t do anything to ruin the movie. The cast was pretty good. Everyone pulled their weight pretty well and made a few scene really stand out. It’s weird to think that this movie was delayed for a scene that is similar to something you may see on FX. Overall, the movie was a fun time and had a decent amount of laughs.
