I realize I am a little behind in this news dish but I read yesterday on Oscars.org that James Franco and Anne Hathaway are set to host the Oscars this year.

It’s somewhat surprising news to see that two young, talented actors will be hosting the event this year. I take it this is the Academy’s attempt at attracting a wider and perhaps younger crowd to the telecast, much like the expansion of the Best Picture category. While I love James Franco, I’m honestly not a big fan of Hathaway. But I don’t doubt either’s ability to host an award show. There is one problem I do have with this switch up though. Don’t they think it might be a little awkward to have a host nominated, and possibly win, an award the same night they are hosting? It seems a little overlapping to have a master of ceremonies also be a participant of the awards. I mean, shouldn’t the event of the Oscars act as a celebration of talent, where the person(s) nominated get to come together to praise one another. So if Franco or Hathaway are nominated, then in addition to celebrating, they’re also there to do a job. I’m sure they will do a very nice job hosting, it just seems as though it will make for a very interesting award show.

So what do you guys think? Anyone agree/disagree with me? Are you excited about this year’s fresh young host/hostess or do you think its an awful idea?
