Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)

What’s It About?
After what they believe to be a series of break ins, a family sets up security cameras in their home that reveal something more terrifying.

What We Thought:
JessParanormal Activity 2 was a pleasant surprise for me. While I didn’t have low expectations, I was expecting a rehash of the first movie with a different group of people with nothing to new to add to the experience. What you get out of PA2 is an excellent tie in to the original, this time focusing on the family of Katie’s sister who is seemingly being targeted by the same demon from the first movie. This was more action packed than the first, but also like in Katie and Micah’s story, you get to become attached to the family and there is a lot of personal character development. This is a huge advantage for these films because I think it makes the tension much more visceral. Because of the original take on the story I give kudos to the creators of this movie for not taking a cheap shot of copying the first movie for the sake of profit, but giving the audience something to really think about and appreciate. I definitely enjoyed this movie and thought it was a great sequel and Halloween flick.

Lindsay: I must say that I agree 100% with Jess on this one. Anyone who is a fan of Paranormal Activitiy will be pleased with this sequel.

Rob: Paranormal Activity 2 managed to take a movie that could have been a cheap rehash and managed to create a film with a good plot that actually helped take the sting out of a issue I had with the first movie. Like many others, I wanted the ending of the first movie to be a little like the original “alternative” ending. This movie made me feel like maybe the study had something bigger in mind when they changed it. However, the demon face was still probably a misjudgment. Paranormal Activity 2 is well acted and well directed. The only major claim I have with this movie is a feel like most of what happens in the trailer never happens in the movie. There are at least three things I have seen in the trailer that I didn’t see on the big screen. Maybe this will mean more extras on the DVD?

Really enjoyable movie. It may not be perfect in all aspects but it was worth the watch.
