Let Me In(2010)

What’s It About?

A remake of the critically acclaimed “Let the Right One In“, Let Me In tackles the same storyline of a young awkward boy named Owen, who is often bullied at school. When a mysterious girl named Abby moves into his apartment complex, they form a strong friendship. But the girl has an awful secret that could potentially put Owen and everyone else in danger.

What We Thought:
Jess: \This review is coming from the perspective of a viewer who never saw the original version, Let The Right One In. I really enjoyed this movie and thought it was very well made. The acting performances from Richard Jenkins, Chloe Moretz, and especially Kodi Smit-McPhee were so strong that even if the story wasn’t as great they could have definitely carried it. It is a relief that there is an opposing acting force to the Disney brigade in Hollywood that are actually extremely talented and don’t make you want to blow your brains out. The story engrossed me and made me really care for the characters. Several scenes were so well shot that I was pleasantly taken back in the theater. I definitely want to watch the original and see how I feel about the two in comparison.

Lindsay: This will be a balanced review because I had the pleasure of seeing Let The Right One In beforehand. As a standalone film, Let Me In is a beautifully told story. The acting and directing are pitch perfect. There is a car crash scene in the movie that is particularly noteworthy.  But in comparison to the previous film, this one didn’t offer much more. I liked the small section of what they did change (which was very minimal) but felt that there wasn’t much here to warrant any points above the original. As a result, I felt the movie wasn’t able to sufficiently impact me. If you have not checked out Let The Right One In (which is outstanding), then Let Me In will be a suitably entertaining movie experience. But if you want to check it out only for comparison, you will not be thrilled much beyond just that curiosity. But seriously that car crash scene was awesome.

FTS SCORE:

77%
61-89% = Really enjoyable movie. It may not be perfect in all aspects but it was worth the watch.
